I someone can't afford a 70K truck then they don't have to worry about spending the 300 bucks. And the shocks are certainly no worse than what comes on the non FX4 trucks.
I can't fathom why anyone would spend a pile of money on the F250 with a gas motor when for just a bit more they could get the 6.7 and an F350. But that's just my opinion.
Because $8k is not “a little” more money, or because they drive a lot of short trips that aren’t good for Diesel engines, or because the gas engine is less complicated and has less parts to break, or because they wanted a higher cargo capacity, or because they have zero need for the diesel.
I can’t fathom why someone would want “W’s” all over their Ford. But that’s just my opinion

$8k for the the 6.7 and another $1k for F350 isn't just a bit more to a lot of people. You must be very fortunate.

Or because a gas f250 cost exactly the same as a f150. You get a lot more truck for the same money. Or you've done like me and had the diesel, had a ton of issues and refuse to own another diesel with all the modern emissions. There are plenty of good reasons to own a gas f250.
Or you just plain don't need the diesel. I spend what? $2000 a year on fuel tops. Prius owners burn more than that.
I Tried to make a case for the diesel, being that I'm a hardcore diesel guy, Master Diesel tech, Master Gen tech. But I have absolutely ZERO need for one.
Tons of highway? No.
Huge tires and obscene capabilty robbing lift kit? No.
Uber heavy trailer? No.
Dual Rear Wheels? No.
I'm a Momo, and just want the most powerful engine option available at all cost? No.
Local grocery getting? Yes.
Local off roading? Yes.
Off roading in slick wet soft conditions where weight is the enemy? Yes.
Short drives in extremely cold weather? Yes.
Everything I tow can be towed poorly by an F150? Yes.
Need to be self reliant and need the absolute best reliability possibly? Yes.
Sounds like my needs reflect a gas engine completely.
Not to mention that every single fleet I know is switching to gasoline for anything smaller than a DRW truck and we're going to see more and more big gas DRW's. It's more than just $8k cost for the diesel. It's $10k+ every time a drop of water gets into the engine, or a service tech says a drop of water got into the engine. I can get an entire 6.2L installed for $8k. And the diesel forum is a bit of a mess right now with fuel gelling, low power, low pressure, issues. It's -2 degrees here. And now we have a Dodge in the fleet that ate 2 Cummins engines (#6 cylinder). I might even get stuck with a GM in 2 more years. Ick.
My take is simple, if you don't need the diesel engine, then it's the lesser engine choice. If you have a legit need for the diesel, and can work it enough to keep it happy, then get it.

Where I am in Texas, it is very difficult to find a gas F250 on a dealer lot. They seem to order mainly diesels. Diesels do hold their value, so much of the upfront cost is returned on resale.
Up here, all the telecom fleets are gas 450/550 bucket trucks.
The comment about why wouldn’t you spend more for the diesel is shortsighted. For one thing, the gas V8 is a good, enjoyable motor! We’re currently in the longest cold snap I can remember and after already having to change waxed up filters once, and having poor heat and very high idling each time I fire up the truck...for right now I wouldn’t mind driving a gas. There is also a big payload advantage with a gas.
How'd this FX4 topic switch to Gas vs Diesel... lol. I know....
Very easy to get side-tracked...guess I got sucked in. Perhaps it related to the original question of is the FX4 package worth it...is the diesel worth it?
I live in North Georgia and the dealers around me order the fx4 package on nearly all of their super duty trucks.
I'm beginning to see more and more of the new super duty's on road and I'd say 9 out of 10 have the fx4 package. I'm guessing if you don't want the package included on your truck you would most likely have to order it yourself, at least in my area. Are you guys seeing this where you live as well?
Afted around 10K on my 06 6.oh ***** and 116k miles on the ticker I threw in the towel and got a 17 f250 6.2 and damn glad I did. The new truck is great warms up quick ect. ect. As to the OPs question to me the FX4 is a pretty good deal I got that and the STX package great looking truck at an affordable price point. I'm out of the diesel world
