I have used the "Hill Decent Control" on my farm when going down steep hills for long periods of time. It prevents you from having to ride the brakes with your foot, but it basically "rides the brakes" for you. It doesn't save your brakes whatsoever, it just hits them for you. In all honesty though, I love it.
^^^^ bingo ^^^^^ does not save brakes. Just maybe your legs lol
OK, I had to go back to the window sticker and you guys are correct, I did pay seperatly for the locking diff and the tires. So for the $295 I got shocks, hill descent, skid plates, and fx4 decals. Still doesn't seem like a bad deal but I can see how some folks wouldn't want to pay for this option.
Well.... based on info gathered from this forum. It’s is a bad deal.
1. Shocks are junk and not better than the basic shocks
2. Hill descent is a $20 part and a change in forscan
3. Skid plates are $100 option
4. Fx4 decals are worthless
So you could accomplish the same thing for $120 and a forscan change right?
Just clarifying for everyone not judging how you spend your money.

I won't **** around for 300 bucks. Add it and its done. The truck lists at 100K and quibbling about the value of a $300 package makes zero sense to me.
I've also used the hill descent and it's really something. And the center skid plate keeps the tcase from high centering. Been there done that.
As for the shocks, I've never had any trouble and I'll replace them when it's time.
not that it matters much (on a $70K truck) but the price for 2018 MY is $400 (25% increase). I am not sure if it gives you any more than it used to. I doubt it. Many options wen up significantly for 18. Fifth Wheel prep went from $370 to $500.

I could absolutely do without all this, I bought the truck off the dealer lot and the package was on the truck when I purchased it.
Hill Descent does not save your brakes at all...actually, just the opposite. It uses the regular brake system, under full ABS control, to regulate your speed to a very controlled
Contrary to another statement here, it can be used on road. I found it surprisingly useful backing down in reverse a long steep icy driveway I was plowing.
Very cool that it works in reverse, and also that it is useful on slick icy surfaces. Trying to learn all I can before I take delivery in a couple weeks. -bill

For some of us, the difference could be better spent (like getting real shocks). Not everyone can afford a $70-100k truck.

Hey if you can't afford 300 bucks so be it.
On my truck it works out to be 0.3% of the list. So you can see how minor of a detail it really is. I guess I could save 0.1% further by trying to add some programing via forscan LOL!
^ Yeah for $300 bux its basically a “why the hell not” option. I’m sure ford marketing planned it that way. My truck has it and I dont regret paying the $300 for it.
Who's got skid plates and DHA for $120 installed? How long did it actually take you to install? Those aren't the prices I have available. I'll check the Fx4 box all day long. When the Ranchos start to feel like the base shocks, I'll put a BDS 2" level, and Fox 2.0's on.
I didn't pay the $390 anyway. $44k truck came down to 38k after rebates. Whoop de do. Can buy 2 of my trucks for the cost of an 18 Platinum, that's insane. LOL.
I'm in the snow belt. So I need all the brake wear I can get. I speed downhills just so I can apply the brakes more. Only way to keep them clean and rust free. DHA is welcome. Pads and rotors are a good chore for a 3rd grader, or an evening where I don't feel like thinking much. It's literally harder to mow my lawn.
^^"Can't afford..." It wasn't said the $300 or even the $180 difference. It was said a $70-100k truck.
^Why spend extra cash for crappy shocks and an ugly sticker (IMHO) that could be better spent?
I someone can't afford a 70K truck then they don't have to worry about spending the 300 bucks. And the shocks are certainly no worse than what comes on the non FX4 trucks.
I can't fathom why anyone would spend a pile of money on the F250 with a gas motor when for just a bit more they could get the 6.7 and an F350. But that's just my opinion.
