I’m looking at buying a 2008 F450 with a troubled 6.4L diesel and currently have a 1999 F250 I’ve had since new. Was curious about putting the 7.3L into the 2008 F450 and if it’s possible to do so. Anyone have experience with this swap?
I'm guessing no. In fact, I'll say almost for sure no. The electronics are all different, I'm betting other things will have to be swapped or replaces also. I'm pretty sure the transmission won't work, or just about anything. Since the 6.4L was generally a troubled engine to begin with, if you know it is troubled, I think I'd just pass on it and wait for something else.
Of course it's possible. Is it practical? Not at all.
As pointed out the electronics are WAY different. If you were to get it installed and running the entire dash won't work. The trans in the truck won't bolt to a 7.3L, and if you made an adapter to get it to bolt together you'd have a computer nightmare to try and fix. And as pointed out a 7.3L is not going to fit in the truck without modifications to crossmembers, mounts, etc.
