Fuel pump problems. Last step before dropping the tank.

2004 f150 supercrew
5.4 XLT 4x4 140k

Hello everyone.
Sunday i went to Lowes no problems all day.
Monday morning it wouldn't start. Engine cranks, and fires. No start.
No previous engine codes CEL light or other, no signs of a fuel pump problem prior.

I started with fuses, good.
relay is contacting, swapped for another relay for confirmation.
I checked the inertia switch, good.
Four pin connector above the fuse panel, green/yellow wire 12+ volts, good.

Truck has newer fpdm.
checked voltage and ground across white wire and black / yellow wire 12+ volts
jumped pins on fpdm connector, 2 outside pins each side. no fuel pressure, still,
removed fuel lines to fuel filter, no fuel pressure.

is there anything else I could check, before dropping the tank, to verify that it is the pump, or the connection at the pump?
It just puzzles me that the fuel pump just stopped working over night with no sign of going out... not the craziest thing I suppose..
Any input is greatly appreciated.

that does happen. I had one on a 2002 EXP die while I was in the store.... One thing you can try is to kick the fuel tank to move the fuel pump motor a few thousands and see if it will start.... the rotor on the motor only needs to move to the next contact, or shift the bearings slightly to get it to spin.

If it has a fuel pump driver module, that is the first place to look. Look for a corroded base plate which usually indicates the insides are toast. Its on the cross rail to the rear of the fuel tank. If that's it, its a cheap fix. Seeing that you're in the salt belt, I'd almost bet on it IF the '04 has it. I know the '07 does.

good catch 1saxman............ I was thinking Heritage ( early 2004) ........ if he has the "new" model , then it will have the module just like the 2005-6-7-8.

[QUOTE=Mark76;17667442]

Truck has newer fpdm.
/QUOTE]
I think the op covered that possibility.

call your local autozone if there's one nearby. Probably tell with your vin but not always. They replaced one under warranty for me a year or so ago, not from my f150 but another vehicle.

The only thing I can add, is if you have come to the conclusion to replace your pump and drop your tank, to be careful of what you buy online. Amazon (for instance) tries to do a good job of asking all the right questions, but can still be wrong. I wont buy auto parts from there anymore despite the 'bargains'. I replaced a fuel pump for my 5.4 fx4 supercrew standard bed from an online source because of a deal. less than a year later the sender is bad and the pump is failing. Either I got the wrong pump for my configuration or it was crap to begin with. Now it's frigid temps, snow on the ground, and I'm faced with replacing it again. Just beware.

@ Carrick That is always a Big Fear!! Of Cheap parts online. But still I can find the Same Name Brand Parts almost 100$ Cheaper on line and that is crazy, Honestly...

So, my only problem now is that i cross shop web sites and come up with different options and part numbers...
I believe I have a 138.7 inch wheelbase New style Crew Cab Xlt 4x4 / 5.4L. w/ 5'5" Bed
I have come up with part numbers
MotoCraft PFS208
AIRTEK E2533M DELPHI FG0846
DENSO 935-4037 CARTER - p76343M

CAN ANYONE CONFIRM these Parts# Any of them, Just one..
Also How can you tell if you have the extended range tank?, or was it even available on an XLT SuperCrew Short Bed

Thanks !!!
