Frame Question

I am looking for info on 2004-2008 F150 frames. I have a 1947 Ford truck (1 ton) that I want to put a modern frame and suspension under it. The 47 wheelbase is 122". The 04-12 F150 standard cab short bed has a 126" wheel base. I tried to get one thru a salvage auction, but didnt get it because I did not know I needed a deposit to bid higher. They have plenty of extended cab short bed configurations, wheelbase 139" I know Ford has a seam in the frame under the cab. Would it be hard to split the frame there and shorten up the back end to make it 122" wheelbase? Or is taking 17" out to much where I am considering it?

I saw a youtube video (not a really good one) where a guy did split a frame like that, but he was replacing the rotten rear section of frame with the same frame style. I know there will be modifications anyway, but just wondering if this is feasible since standard cab short beds are hard to find in my area.

Does anyone have frame diagrams for the 2004-2008 F150's ? Tried looking on here and the internet and came up with nothing.

I would just go out with a tape measure.
Visit street rod forums.
Welding on frames is something done only by those who know what their doing.
I weld, pretty good at it. I would have someone do it that's certified, if there is such a cert.

I have a '46 1/2 ton and a '07 F150 SCrew, so I can help with some of the dimensions you might want. Which do you need, exactly?
Also, why not use the Ranger or S10 frame and lengthen if you're going thru the frame cutting idea? The front width I think of the f150 is more than the '47.

I guess part of the reason going for a F150 is better availability of parts. The other part is we want to put seat belts in the truck. The easy way to do that is with a newer F150 with the belt integrated into the seat. Now I know I can buy seats and put them in. But it seems to be the cheaper route to buy a complete truck, strip off what I do not need or want and go from there.
I can find frames in the u pull it yards, but some wont sell complete frames without titles, and they claim they have no time to look for them. Plus most are missing suspension parts anyway.

I just looked on the salvage auction site and found some newer Rangers (2000 on up) that might work, but again, no clue on the frame dimensions and can not find info except that supercabs have a wheelbase of 126".

Will a ranger frame handle a coyote?

Gary, if you could get some measurements off the 150 that would be great. Looking primarily at the front section width at the horns, centerline of front axle and just in front of the cab. I found some for the rear section.

Ok, after doing a little more research, I really do not want the Ranger set up. I would prefer a true IFS like on the 150. Some Rangers use torsion bar set ups, some use twin beam set ups and some 2wd use true IFS. Since I really can not go look at the trucks except from pictures the auction site provides, I can not tell what type of suspension they have, however, all the ones near me are all 4wd, meaning no IFS.
I am using the VIN decoder on this site, but I have found that its not 100% accurate.

Gary, if you could also get a frame measurement at the widest part under the cab I would appreciate it as well. Thanks

Gary, dont worry about the measurements. A friend of mine stopped by with his truck. The frame would work except for the cab area width. I would have to modify the back of the cab (not much) to slip over the 150 frame, but would have to severely modify the running boards to work. Guess I am dropping back and punting again.
