Frame set up question

After more years than I care to admit this is the winter I will finally start work on the frame for my 56 f100. Last winter I built a frame table and heavy rotisseries which can attach to the table so I can position the frame for optimum welds. I am working on the brackets to secure the frame to the table now, and some cross bracing so it is solid before I start work.
I will be using a 86 Jaguar xj6 front assembly and a Explorer 8.8 with truck arms in the rear. Fully boxed with ample side to side bracing. New heavy cross members for the truck arm brackets and transmission. The Jag front will be a soft mount. I am planning on a 3/4" rake. Reading on various forums everyone seems to recommend setting the frame dead level side to side which I can see, but also front to rear. The Jag cross member needs to be set level front to back, So I am thinking to set the frame up with the rake I want before I start.
For those that have done frame set ups how did you set your frame before you started work, level front to back or with the rake you wanted?
Thanks in advance.

B

First off, the table and rotisserie look awesome. I'm jealous.

As for your question, Im not sure I can properly answer it. But since you're only talking a 3/4" rake, could you get that with wheel choices?

That's a hell of a work table! A project in itself!

Or tire choice.

Frame should be set at the desired take and then make the jag crossmember level front to back so it will have the correct caster amount when the truck is done.

I'm not a pro at this, but this seems like one of those "in a perfect world" type of things. I would imagine that more than half of the f100's running around make wheel/tire choices that account for way more than 3/4" rake adjustment.

I can't imagine that 3/4" rake would change caster by any measurable amount.

I hope that didn't come across wrong, but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that.

Most manufacturers recommend setting your rake and welding in the cross member level..

I would agree. Changing a 110" wheel base vehicle from dead level to a 3/4" rake (at the axles) would result in a change at the king pin of 0.39 degrees. Give or take 0.0006 degrees or so.

What's the normal amount of variance in caster?

Set Front end level. It’s only 3/4 rake. You really don’t want to change the caster.

Out of my comfort level on this one. But that was the whole idea of the project. I am going to lock it down to the table with the rake I want and go from there. I appreciate the replies, confirmed what I was thinking.

Probably not a big deal, but there is not a lot of caster adjustment available in the Jag IFS, so why lose any. Crossmember is level in the factory XJ6 at ride rake so I set mine up the same way. Worked good for me, your mileage may vary
