'49 hood hinge installation question

'49 hood hinge installation question

Do these hinges get bolted directly to the side of the cowl, or should there be a thin fiber(gasket paper) washer on the studs to protect the paint on the cowl as they are tightened?

Those hinges bolt thru into the cab and could be a source of leaks. I sealed around the bolts on the last two trucks I did with body sealer caulk.

Thanks, Ray. I didn't think about a leak problem, a thin washer of gasket paper would probably be a good idea then. I have some 1/64" gasket stock. I wouldn't think that would be thick enough to cause an alignment issue.

Don't forget to lubricate them as they will squeak while opening the hood .Spray lithium grease works fine .

These are the original hinges from my F4 I don't know if '53-'56 are the same or not.
