Hood hinges

Recently I noticed my hood was sitting high near the cowl. Not really high but enough to cause me concern. I have three sets of hinges so I thought I would replace the hinges.
After supporting the hood I started removing the bolts, nothing surprising so I finished the disassembly. When I put on the new hinge on, (drivers side, this is the side that was sitting high) I bolted it up to firewall then started attaching the two bolts to the hood. The bolt closest to the firewall on the hood did not want to tighten. It would get snug then spin. I removed the bolt only to find the hole was stripped. This caused the hood to rise up in the back.
I removed the new hinge, and tapped out the stripped hole. I put the old hinge back on and put in a new set of bolts. Now all is like it should be.
I had remembered about the washer trick to bring the hood down, and was willing to give that a try in case my fix was not good enough. I'm glad my fix worked. I need to get the gap perfect for final paint. More on that in another thread. I'm about a 1/16th of an inch off and ran out of daylight. Today I'll fine tune the gap, and be done with that.

I don't know that trick, where do you put the washers? I may need it soon, I have some painting in my future, and with that I will be doing some body fine tuning.

Put your washers between the hood and the hinge mounting surface on the front hood mounting bolt hole. I have seen it done but have not tried it myself.

Robert, You need to put several stacks of washers between the frame and body to bring the whole truck up to the correct height!

I thought about that Greg, but I don't want it looking as goofy as yours.

Long low and slow
