Ok, so don't shoot me as I very rarely enter this area of FTE, but I was browsing cl in my area and came across an ad for a 96 tailgate. I don't know how difficult they are to come by nor a good price for one. So here's the ad:
Now those tail gates are hard to find even more so the aluminum cladding in good condition, most of these trucks in the south west are used in construction and well you know. I had a hell of time just finding a good tail gate, i got lucky i found one with minor work needed.

Reason: Broken screen making me type wrong lol...
I had one of those eBay tailgates on my truck and they are not very good quality. The seam on the tail gate where the cable load point is started to split apart and it got so bad to the point that the tailgate would not close. I found a rust free oem tailgate and the weight of the eBay is a little less compared to the oem. The eBay tailgates would be ok for someone who doesn't put a lot of weight on the tailgates, but from loading up a quad every now and then the tailgate started to come apart for me.
I too noticed the aluminum quality on the tailgate. Most of the time when I see them they don't look as good as this one. But, I can't tell how straight the tailgate is itself. you know how sometimes they have a bow in them from someone sliding stuff in the bed and hitting the backside. Thanks for the feedback though, just in case I see other parts that might be of interest.
It would be mine if I was close, paint is close enough for me to respray to my E4? red color. I have some clapped out gooseneck deal on mine, looks terrible.
How does one know if it has that full brushed aluminum strip on the back or not from the factory? My rig is an XLT F350, even has buckets up front with center console.

from my knowledge most 96 and older xlt had them. 97 from all I have seen do not. Some XL base trucks did not have. So much cleaner with out the panel!!! My panel less pristine gate came off of a much older truck. Can't wait to see the clean on between them hips.
