I have a 2001 F-150 ext cab with a 5.4 engine and today I noticed a brake fluid leak along the left rail of the frame going back towards the rear end. I am assuming that there is a cracked, or worn line with a hole in it. It looks pretty tight to get at and was wondering if I will have to take the fuel tank out in order to repair the line. It looks like (the hole) according to the wet spot to be towards the back end of the fuel tank on the inside of the frame. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks
I cut my line below the drivers seat and too it loose at the rear axle... jerked the old line out... slid and new line in "close " to the original positon and use original clamps if possible, and a couple tie wires (nylon) if necessary...... At our NAPA stores you can by 3/16 inch high pressure ( 10,000 psi) steel ferrel compression fittings. I use one of them.. My original line was not 3/16 inch... must be like 4 mm diameter... it was several thousands larger than the 3/16 inch fitting.. I had to file the OD slightly.
Just a follow up on replaceing the brake line. My line had a fitting under the drivers side and I was able to disconnect the 3/16" line there and also back where the line connects to the rubber hose, pull it out and replace with a new line. Sort of cramped but take your time and it will all fit without removing the fuel tank, etc..
