I'm looking at a 92 F350 w/7.3l IDI & E4OD that has no reverse. By that I mean that when its put into reverse it drives forward. The truck is 500 miles away and I'd have it hauled up because I don't think I could drive all the way here without needing reverse at least once LOL. Anyway, if it was a C6 or something similar I'd say it's a blown seal or something in the valve body, but with the electronic I'm not so sure. Trans controller? MLPS or TPS out of adjustment? The truck and rack body are in very good condition and the asking price is very good, so short of having to put a new tranny in (which I highly doubt will be the case) buying and repairing it will be very cost-effective for me. Any ideas?
Does park work? If so, the shift linkage is functioning. If not, the problemis the shift linkage has become disconnected. That's a relatively easy fix.
If park works and the truck will not roll more than a few inches, the problem is that the forward clutch has failed and the heat from the failure has welded the clutch together. That takes a complete rebuild or a new transmission to fix.
Edit: When you say “If park works and the truck will not roll more than a few inches” do you mean not rolling more than a few inches when in gear? It’s my understanding that the truck drives forward just fine when in D, and drives forward just fine when in R. I will get clarification.
When it is in park it's normal that the truck can move a few inches in either direction. If it can roll more than a foot, then that indicates it isn't in park.
Well he says park does work so it looks like the tranny will have to come out. Perhaps I can find a good 4x2 model to get me by till I get the bad one rebuilt.
