MAP Sensor Swap

For those who aren't really wrench spinners...such as myself.

I'm curious about the streak of soot going down the turbo. Thoughts?

Arrow pointing to MAP sensor. Sits next to oil pressure sensor. Black soot streak on turbo?

Thoughts?

Taking out old sensor.

New sensor installed.

Looks like possibly an exhaust leak, the streak goes towards the manifold in this pic, unless I'm seeing things

I just did it this morning. Still a little early to tell. Peace of mind if anything at this point.

On the exhaust leak. Where would it be leaking from to creep up the turbo in a column like that?

Manifold leak??!! Turbos suck on that side. I have a bud that smokes 3 pks a day. I saw the same thing on his white mustache today, thought of your truck. Dig into the soot below and see where it goes. Interested. Could have been a loose clamp? (that wouldn't be a game changer for your boost, but would explain the trail of tears).

Codes still popping?

Never did have any codes.

I also clean the engine bay somewhat regularly. I wonder if that was a place on the turbo I didn't reach. Either way I suppose that soot shouldn't be there. I'll have to pick a day when I can remove the intake and all that again to investigate further.

looks like a leak at the tube from low to high turbo.

the brackets that support the tube are part of the valve cover bolt/nuts/washer system. there are some pretty odd shaped and odd length bolts in that system and if not properly reassembled...it will put that connecting tube out of alignment.

I'd almost say it looks to be just an area that can't be reached when cleaning your engine. What I mean is...if you say take a pressure washer and or hose stream and wash/degrease the engine...with the intake tube attached to the turbo....it would prevent/shield that area from the water stream. Think along the same lines as if the sun were shining on the engine.....that area would be in the shade.

Thanks for that. I'm thinking along those lines as well. It's what it looks like anyway.

Does a dealer or shop have an easy way to check for exhaust leaks? I think I may try to shoot a video of the dash while getting up on the freeway or something and post it for you guys to see. Maybe just some normal driving...and see what you guys think about the boost levels.

That is a tough one as the leak might change with motor/exhaust temperature. In general a shop can use a smoke machine hooked to the tail pipe to gently blow smoke up the tail pipe towards the motor. You might notice broken studs on the exhaust manifold.

I have the same stain on my motor, i’m Not concerned yet.
