Right bank is dead

I have an 07 F-150, it was ruining great plenty of power fired up no problem. This morning I was on my way to work and about a half hour of driving I went to get into a turn around and as accelerated out of the turn around it lost all power. It started to shake and sputter. I had it towed to a shop, he scanned it and it came up with 6 codes he didnt give me the numbers but he said that the right bank was not firing and the cam timing was off. He said it sounds like i will need a new engine... is this true? I have been reading a lot on here and from what it sounds like could this be the VCT solenoid? Would it shut the whole engine down to the point that it wont even drive above idle? Any help would be appreciated.

Hard to speculate without knowing what those 6 codes were.

^^^^^ 100% agree

"+" there ain't no way I'd even consider letting someone (who didn't even give me the code numbers) push me for a new engine. That's ludicrous!

what engine ?
how many miles ?
has the motor been "ticking" or chain slap prior to this ?

Yes, you could have a problem with the cam timing, chain , tensioner on that one side that would make it run VERY POORLY...... but you need some codes to get started. Hard to believe you need a new motor .... maybe a chain or adjuster or solenoid..

Welcome to the forum.
And based on your responsiveness, good bye.

Jesus, maybe he has something better to do than sit around on the computer, like getting his truck fixed...

Yes, it almost has to be cam related. maybe it lost a tensioner and jumped a tooth or two. A VCT sysyem overhaul (solenoids, phasers, tensioners, guides, etc.) is not a small job, but probably about 1/3 of a new engine in terms of $$, assuming you're having it done professionally.

I have no idea what the little statistics exercise pertains to, but I breathe just fine, thanks.
-- I'm more interested in why someone who hasn't even participated in the topic is undie bunched because the OP didn't respond back to those who DID contribute. Franlky I don't care, I just want to offer ideas to the OP.

I don't begrudge you of that.

It does, however, appear the OP is "One & Done".

I read threads to learn and possible offer help. Since the OP is gone, you are not offering ideas to the OP. Without the OP to provide feedback, the thread is nothing more than speculative brain storming. Dead.

My post was simply to point out that the OP is gone. The thread is dead.
Questions will go unanswered and suggestions will be unheard.

I am just not a fan of people who have the time to ask questions but don't have the time to listen/respond. I really dislike reading threads where new people simply ask the same unanswered questions, or offer the same ignored suggestions.

Maybe it is an age thing (I am 54).
