I just purchased a used Eddie Bauer Expy with 70k miles.
I sometimes start the truck and get a weird grinding sound, I assume its the starter motor. So then my CD player resets and reads on the LCD "NO CD", and is automatically on the AM band. No matter how many times I press the CD button it always reads "NO CD" I have to take out the cartridge and insert it again.
Also the miles computer blinks and recalculates the miles left on the car.
Is there a fix for this, it is getting really annoying at this point.
Is that normal for the expy??
I wonder if the electronic misbehavior is from a dying battery. The grinding sound is probably a bad bendix drive on the starter, or a bendix drive that is not receiving enough current from a dying battery that isn't offering much voltage first thing in the morning. In any event, resolve the grinding issue before you grind your way into needing a new flywheel.
Have you ever noticed the guage needles do a full sweep during the startup process? Another bad battery signal.
had the same problem on my 97. replace the battery and you will be amazed how everything works right again. battery available at your ford dealer for 79.99 , that comes with an 7 year warranty
I agree with changing the battery - these vehicles, for unknown reasons, go bananas when the battery starts dying. It's almos they become posessed!
Get a new battery and let us know if it helps.
EDIT: You might want to check out a Diehard Gold (Sears/NTB) - $79.99 w/3 year full replacement, 100 month prorated. A great battery all the way around.
