I asked this question over in the Audio section but didn't get any replies.
My truck didn't come with CD player, its an XLT with the JBL system but no CD player.
What should I do to get a CD player in it? Do you think the wire harness is there, under the carpet, for the CD server located in the console? The sterio itself has a 'CD' button option and the message is displayed 'No DJ' when I chose the CD input button. The console is just a big empty area, it doesn't look as if a server was ever installed.
Any advice?
If you can find a CD changer from a used '97 it might be a plug and play. There are wakeup lines, etc. in the plug for the changer so I suspect that's all it would take if the wiring truly is already in the console.
I found an original CD server and its' on the way. I tried to get the inside of the console as well but he didn't have it. I hate to cut the original one up. Once I get the server I'll pull the console up and we'll see if the cabling is under the carpet. I hope so, I kinda think the CD player option was a dealer installed item.
I'll let you know.
I pulled the console apart and got down to the harness, no pigtail for the CD server. I can't tell if the wires are in the bundle or not, the bundle passes thru to the rear seat sterio controls.
I received the CD server to day and it has the connector with 6" cable cut off, so I have something to work with and the right color codes.
I really would like to get this to work, I don't want to replace the sterio system with an aftermarket unit, it just won't look right at all. I'm thinking about purchasing an Eddie Baur harness that is on ebay, it might have the pigtail but I'd have to tear half the truck apart. I need the schematics and they are not in the huge factory dealership service manuals, I have both sections.
Any suggestions, words of wisdom?
The schematics are in the factory service manual I have. If you send me a Private Message with the request, the vehicle details, and an e-mail address for you I can e-mail the schematics to you.
Well, I just took the sterio system and front cover off, checked the pinout on the connector to the sterio and there is no provision for the CD player. They must have had an entirely different harness for it.
I can't just shove an aftermarket 2din unit in there because it'll look like crap and the airduct is in the way.
I wonder where I can get the right pins to add it to the original connector and then I can make a dedicated harness for the CD player. Anybody know? Are they deutsch (however it is spelled). I could buy a salvaged harness but they probably wouldn't know if it is CD provisioned or not and then I'd have to splice the existing at the connector - I don't care to do that. I get the feeling the CD option was rare back then.
Crap.
Any ideas?
