Making a ground strap - is it possible?

So I picked up a hydraulic 16 ton crimping tool, 2/0 welding wire, terminals, heat shrink, and lugs to make my own battery cables.

While I was at it I picked up some 2/0 flex ground braid to make a ground strap. Anybody have any tips or ideas on getting the flat braid in a 2/0 lug? I tried it briefly with just my fingers and could tell it was going to require more thought. It almost went in but needs a little even circular compression.

How about a small screw type hose clamp to form the end into a circular shape?

The hose clamp did the trick. I kept working it back and sliding on the terminal. Crimped it down with the hydraulic press, looks nice. 2/0 ground braid is no joke, probably about 1/8 thick and 1 1/4 wide. Now I need to hit Home Depot to get something that will cut it so I can add the 3/8 lug!

When I made cables I cut small pieces of solder and put it in the lug first and a few inside the wire. You could fold a piece in the braid.
Then feed it into the lug, crimp it then heat the lug to melt the solder.
I would then use heat shrink on the end of cable to lug but not needed for the braid.

I bought one of those cheapo Chinese crimpers, and it's been surprisingly good. I used 70 sq/mm round wire instead, so didn't have the issues getting it into the crimps.

Nice job. I need one of them to replace the hammer style crimping tools I use.

Yes, those hydraulic crimpers work great. Just make sure that you are using the right die for your wire size. I didn't use braided cable as it always look good when new but quickly collects dirt and crud. I went with hi-flex rubber coated copper wire.

I used the 70mm die set and found other sources that said it should work with 2/0. I definitely couldn't pull it out.

That sounds about right. If you get it too small then it can damage the wire. Don't ask me how I know that,
