Portable Satellite
We have been using a Tailgater for our Dish Network for 6 years and it's been getting weaker and weaker so for a week we've been using a new Pathway X2 and what a improvement on signal strength, we no longer have any pixilating and we will be able to use the eastern arc satellites when we are out east next year.

Chuck, I remember back around 1978-79 when satellite TV was starting to show up in more homes and my Dad saying that if it came down to $5000 or so, he'd consider it. And yes, the antennas were HUGE.

We have DirecTV at home too. I take boxes from the house and put in the trailer, so no additional monthly charges.
As for a dish, I bought an extra home dish off eBay for next to nothing, and a tripod kit from tv4rv.com. setting and aligning is a little tricky at first, but not bad once you get the hang of it. There are meters you can buy to help but not required.
With DirecTV the only way to get hi-def is the full size dish. The portable ones only get SD. For about $1500 you can get a full size automatic dish mounted to the roof of the RV.

We like Dish Network because of the local channels that can be changed every day if you want. We own our equipment and it's pay as you go so it can be turned on and off wherever you want. We went the full size dish route for years but when we wanted HD the 3 LNB was a none starter for setting it up so with the Tailgater or Pathway X1 and X2 are fully automatic and you just set it out tell it what state you are in and it does the rest, we even set it out if we are stopping for the night. When we are at our home base we take the receiver out of the trailer and use it in the house hooked to a standard dish.

I have direct TV... I have a genie and a second antenna for trailer... I just bring the receiver in trailer from home.
I also have Verizon Hotspot for internet.
I guess you have unlimited data plan !!

I have unlimited data plan. No contract, no equipment, you download the app on your smart tv, pick a package and wala.tv straming. I also have a WiFi booster that enhances the wifi signal.

Cancelling my DISH NETWORK service
I have been using Dish Network for about 9 years. Very frustrating company to deal with and customer service has gone from bad to worse.
I have made the decision to go another route for my TV service. Our 5th wheel has an outstanding HD antenna so I do not worry at all about local channels -- no matter where we are.
Everything else I am going to STREAM. Our coach has a WIFI ranger which is basically a signal booster and it works very well.
There are so many options for Streaming. You can STREAM with Amazon Prime and at home we have Comcast / Xfinity. I can watch this service on any device and cable it with an HDMI cable to my TV. Also with Comcast you can watch from any device any thing you have recorded on your DVR.
Another feature we have is that we have AT&T service and can use the phone hotspot. We have the unlimited data plan already.
This is a work in progress but I have tried all of these options out and looks like it will work out great. This is a lot cheaper way to go than Satellite Dish service.

Remember the 10' satellite dishes back in the 80's? We had one, the black mesh type..took up most of the backyard. When we moved in 91, packed it up and took it with us, but never re-installed it...got cable instead. Still had it and the receiver up until about 5 years ago, and finally got rid of it.
