Have you seen the shifter or Trans itself? He very well may believe he has the Ole "4 speed with overdrive", when he just isn't knowledgeable/smart enough to know that it's simply a 5 speed and a 4 speed with overdrive doesn't exist.

No I have not. But he is claiming..... it is a granny 4 speed. And when questioned about it.... "it came stock matching numbers had a buddy who had another one like that and my dad" AKA a kid who doesnt know what he is talking about
The mazda trans doesn't have no granny gear, that's for sure.So he's just totally clueless what a granny gear is,or doesn't know someone swapped in an old 4 speed trans.Pretty harmless.I'd just let the kid think what we wants lol.

Depending on what gears are in the back of the truck, the first gear in a M5 is pretty steep. Not quite granny gear steep, but I know my '89 with 3.55's in the back was pretty short in 1st gear. Barely had to let the clutch go and you shifted it. Second gear was not quite enough and it would lug if you tried using it.
The "unknowing" kid would likely think it was a granny gear.
