Hey guess what, still waiting on papers and glass. Thanks Satan.
But, I did fit the GPS speedo.
Cheap Chinesium junk, but it works. Regrettibly the front appears to be bonded to it, as i wanted to make a nice faceplate for it. Oh well.
It's also in there until the end of time, between the electric wiper motor and my new pedal bracket it was not an easy job. Had to drop the entire pedal bracket to get it in there.
I wouldn't have bothered if it didn't need an inspection but here we are. Kit needed some fitting but it works
The worst part about all this is i'm just sitting on my hands without agency. Sent stuff off to ICBC, phoned the glass guy over a month ago, and there's just nothing left to do. I can't make this go any faster and it's just a hateful time waiting for the planets to align of their own accord.
I should learn not to take cars out to blow off some steam. Was feeling down from this taking forever and some other stuff similarly stalling, so i took the DeSoto out for a pleasure cruise.
Wasn't beating on it, just a leisurely cruise to get some burgers. And the ****er threw a rod bearing, now i have to rebuild that motor and all it's unobtanium parts on top of the truck, jaguar and polara needing a billion things.
Steve:At least you are talented to know what the problem is and how to fix it. I would still be sitting by the side of the road swearing and an occasional tear running out of my eyes.
Regards, Mark.
I feel for you but unfortunately when we operate this type of stuff this is a possibility . I chuckle every time I see a thread on getting an engine unstuck and running ( not suggesting this is your case ) . You may very well get it going but the long term viability is questionable . Do you think is is repairable with a parts engine and what engine is it ?
I'm not terribly familiar with early mopar stuff, but I do know they used a straight 6 flathead for a long time... wiki says from the 20's up until 1959. If it were my problem, and I couldn't easily find the unobtanium-based parts to rebuild the original motor, I'd probably look for a running later flat six that would fit. Then make the original motor rebuild a long-term project.
Again, I don't know much about these cars, but I wouldn't be that surprised if some of the later flat sixes either bolt in, or would go in with minimal effort. Plus, they're not that hard to find, and there are speed parts available for them. That said, there may be some open drive vs. closed drive issues similar to those that crop up with swapping around early ford drivetrain parts. Good luck though!

Mopar's very weird during the 30's. 34, 35, 36 and 37 were each effectively unique motors in terms of internal parts like clutches and bearings. The motor they used up until 1960 was standardized sometime around 1940, despite being outwardly identical.
If the block's a writeoff I'll have to consult the airflow people on possible swaps. I'd say one of the early 50's fullsize Desotos would be the best bet. Largest displacement while being close enough chronologically that it's hopefully bolt in.

It's a chrysler flathead 6. I popped the head off, and apart from ridging, everything seems fine on 1-5. #6 is terribly pitted and scored.
I can't feel any rod play on any of them, nor is there any confetti. But 6 was trying to seize up. I need to pull the motor anyway for the clutch and motor mounts so i guess i'll pull it apart and see how bad it is. Really hoping a ring didn't turn into dust because this engine does not have an oil filter and I'm presuming i'm ****ed if that stuff gets into the oil passages.
Absolutely had to spend an hour making new exhaust mounts out of scrap because i ripped that off going up the ramp. My fault for not sciencing it out. Oops.
Congrats! New glass always looks like progress. Your trailer loading incident brought back some memories. I think most car trailers are possessed. They find a way to throw a stick in your spokes no matter what you are loading. Especially if you aren't used to the trailer's ramp geometry.
Just found your thread and looking forward to updates.

Unfortunately, yet hopefully, you're just in time for the closing credits.
Took the truck around the block with the glass in it. It's way louder with the windows in it, i guess it's now resonating when it wasn't before. The sound insulation appears to do jack **** too. Whoops.
Probably gonna put those turndowns on after all, hopefully that helps with the droning. Suddenly buying all that stereo junk seems like wasted money, i'll never hear it.
