AOD Shifter Choices

Anyone have any ideas for console type shifter for Ford AOD ? Need lit display to show what gear I'm in, otherwise choices are wide open.

Not sure what type of build lokar is great but pricey if your budget building almost any 3 speed auto shifter could be made to work .

I have just ordered the Lokar cable shifter and gear indicator kit. A bit pricey but seems to meet my requirements. Time will tell I guess.

Original AOD shifter

At one time I had notions about using a console shifter from a 1990's Thunderbird but opted for the Lokar floor style.

If memory serves, the linkage would have to have been reversed.

Not as pretty as an aftermarket unit but the stock Mustang shifter is made for the AOD and can be found with the cables, etc for not much cash.

Many of us use Lokar shifters.

They have a shift boot and dash indicators.

Thanks for responding, but the key word here is CONSOLE shifter. Lokar doesn't offer one, and they want an extra $230.00 for a lighted gear indicator. Thanks but no thanks.

Yup , don't know where you are but up here the boot + shifter would end up very close to $ 1,000 Canadian . As I mentioned any 3 sp auto - AOD cable shifter should be usable .

Not to hi-jack this thread, but just a side question. I have an FMX. Does the transmission need to be dropped to install a Lokar shifter? Or is there enough room to do it over the transmission hump with the transmission access cover/plate removed?
