Just lost my storage space. Had my 1976 F350 Camper Special stored for the past 20+ years.
She is still in great shape but the rear gas tank skid plate has rotted out. All the dirt and crud that accumulated in the tight space between the skid plate and the plastic tank must have held moisture and just rusted the plate from the inside out. Can NOT seem to find a replacement skid plate ANYWHERE!
Hoping maybe someone on this forum has a lead or is looking to sell a skid plate that will fit, a clean un-rusted skid plate....
I was told that the rear skid plate on my truck was used on the F350 campers from 1973 thru 1977.
Hello,Ford used that plastic tank and skid plate in cab and chassis trucks all the way through the mid 90s. I actually got a nos skid plate at Tasca ford on ebay for my crew cab 2 years ago.
Chris
the rear end is making a cracking sound and when I speed up it stopped. What is it? I changed the brakes all round and emergency brakes as well? It sounds like the rear end is falling off. I lifted it up and no smoke no wear and tear on the outside? It it a bend rear end rod or B.B. going out?

Thanks Uniwagon!
I called Tasca Ford and they said they do not have anything for a 1976 truck. Do you have the part # for the skid plate you ordered? What year is your Crew Cab??
Hello, here is the part number: F5TZ9A147G . Look on ebay also, mind you they are rather expensive so don't faint.
My crew cab is a 79 F350 which all crew cab f350s in the 70s started life as cab and chassis trucks with the 34'' wide frame.

D3TZ-9A147-A .. Fuel Tank Skid Plate-Use with Aft Axle Fuel Tank / Obsolete
Your '76 F350 has this skid plate, because it's a Super Camper Special on the 140" wheelbase (spare tire located behind a door on the r/quarter panel).
Applications for skid plate:
140" wheelbase: 1973/76 F350 Regular Cab Super Camper Special; 1973/79 F350 Regular Cab Trailer Special; 1977/79 F350 Regular Cab Camper Special. Ford dropped "Super" after 1976.

1978/79 F250/350 2WD Crew Cab.
This goes without saying but if know of the existence of one of these skid plates, please let me know!

It's not a "skid plate" per se... it's a shield to prevent road debris from puncturing/damaging the tank.
Not reproduced and yes, you are correct in your assumption about it rusting out from the top down. NBC_Steve's F350 had the same problem and he found one at a honey hole up in Oroville, CA.
Ya might be better off sectioning and replacing the bad metal cuz I think it would be a looooong search for a decent replacement.
I don't know why someone hasn't started remaning the skid pans ? They don't make them for '77.5-'79 f250 4x4 front tank either, or for front tank half ton 4x4. Bunch a bs having to make my own.
