Get er' done!
#16
This project started small and snowballed with too many MAWs. Now, I bought an upper AND lower radiator hose with a thermostat since the lower hose was on death's door. I think my better half is about to cut me off.
I think I have a rear main seal or oil pan leak so even when I get this back together it will still leak and use some oil. Luckily it's only 1/2 a quart every 500 miles or so.

Sorry it took me awhile to update this thread. Here are some pics of the work I got done over the holiday weekend.
When you disassemble the oil cooler make sure you are gentle with it. I can see how folks could damage it if they use a breaker bar and gorilla strength to man handle it.
Also, make sure the gasket surfaces on the headers are spic and span. Don't be too agressive though. They're aluminum and you could damage them easily. I spent 45 minutes to an hour cleaning the gasket surfaces.
When I disassembled the oil cooler I found a bunch of scale build up in the passages. The gaskets were only ripped in one spot. I could tell they were getting brittle though. Probably the gaskets would be in worse shape on a higher mileage motor.
Finally, here's a pic of the oil cooler cleaned and ready for assembly. I will either assemble it tonight or work on cleaning the valve covers some more.
More pics to come.
