What was the purpose of them ? Met up w/ a buddy in Vero Beach at the Velde Ford car show . His '51 has the two tabs in place & makes the rubber seal protrude in the two places where the tabs are located .
My question on this would be, why didn't they interfere with the original seal, or the installation of the stainless trim on those equipped with them? I've never had my windshield out, but need to replace soon. - Bob
They serve no purpose IMO other than a place for rust to start and get in the way when removing or installing glass. If you look in the shop manual it will tell you to cut them off if installing the optional stainless trim. The trim itself does absolutely nothing to hold the glass in. I grind them smooth like Doc suggested.
I'll look for them when I change my windshield. Are you saying they wouldn't be there on a '52 that was factory equipped with the stainless trim? Mine just has the plain rubber seal. - Bob
They don't seem to be related to the SS trim, they were on 48-50's and deleted after that. It's hard to figure what possible use they were, but they make windshield installation a nightmare. A Dremel with cutoff disc will grind thru the spot welds quick enough.
