hello all, I’m new to this site and was hoping someone could help me with a problem on a 2011 f350 6.7 diesel I’m working (I’m a fleet mechanic in nyc). problem goes as so,
so this truck comes in no crank no start and every light is on along with just about every message ford has to offer come up on the dash. So we plug in to our ford IDS which is up to date with all the latest nonsense and there’s no communication with any of the moduals so we clear codes disconnect and reconnect the IDS after it connects I️ check to make sure the pcm isn’t blank for some reason we’ve been having that problem a lot lately and as I️ go to the asbuilt to check pcm number dash cuts out as if no power to the cab disconnect the IDS and surprisingly dash comes back so needless to say we’re all scratching our heads and have no idea where to look or begin. Any thoughts or ideas would be a great help
Has the dash been pulled to extract the HVAC box for repair? Maybe someone replaced the heater core, fan speed controller or the evap core and left a connector loose.
I would also re-seat the PCM connectors under the hood.
There is a connector by the park brake that sometimes gives trouble.
No hvac work has been done yet to this one re seated the pcm plugs and did pin drag tests to make sure none of the pins were bad as well as checked the plug by the parking brake as you recommended. No dice As of know we’re leaning towards either a bad pcm or a bad harness. (These are fleet vehicle with lots of aftermarket things wired in plows liftgates tracking devices things of that nature)
If you pull the codes, any U code might point you in the right direction as they are communication errors of the High and Medium speed CAN bus. A lot is accomplished over the CAN bus.
Just from what I've read and followed on the forum, a problem with the harness near the parking brake seems to have these symptoms, especially on earlier (2011-13) SD's. And with a fleet vehicle I assume is driven by many people I could see this as a potential trouble spot.
That’s what just strokin had said and we tried that as well with no luck if the pcm swap doesn’t work we’re sending it back to the dealer and let them deal with it and scratch there heads
How dirty is it inside this truck? If it's a fleet vehicle, it's likely not very tidy. I would pull the driver's door scuff plate to check for "green death" in any of those wires, particularly the white wires and the white with light blue stripe wires. Those are your HS-CAN + and HS-CAN - wires. Just my 2 cents.
