A warning to those doing the USB update. When I plugged the USB into Stync for my last update (from 1.x to 2.2), I immediately got an update prompt on the screen. This time around, the system just starts downloading without any feedback. I didn’t realize anything was happening until I noticed the USB light flashing. At some point, the status bar at the top of the screen also notifies the user an update is taking place.
So i have a 2016 XLT Sport and i am running Sync 3 v1.0, can i update my sync to run 2.3? i mainly want to use it for Andriod Auto since i dont have navigation on my truck i want to mirror my Google Maps on to my screen, it is possible right.

.....You`re a bit late to the 2.3 update party but better late than never.
Do the update so you can enjoy AA & Google Maps.
Remember that in the future, if you ever want to switch phones and use an iPhone and Apple CarPlay, you`ll have to replace the USB hub which only takes a few minutes. This hub will work for both AA and Apple CarPlay.

Hope this helps you out.
Have a great day.
so i tried doing the update via USB and after 20 mins it said it was done, but then 2 mins later it stated that it think one of the files might have been corrupted. So still no Android auto or google maps on my Sync 3. My truck came factory with the USB hub that every ne mentions, do i still need to switch it out (due to it not being compatible with AA?) Yea I know Im late and i Purchased the truck New in June of 2016, I just never thought it was a possibility to have AA on it till i saw someone on Social media do it
Synch 3 version 3.0 is a little better still, fixes some annoying traits the prior versions had. A little more snappy and bass response seems to have improved a little also. Just my $.02

Yes,
It looks like you might want to try the install again since one of the files was messed up during the install. Do a Master reset of the SYNC system before the re-install.
You`ll only need the new USB hub if and when you ever switch to an iPhone and you want to use Apple CarPlay. Since you mentioned that you want to use Andriod Auto, I assumed that you now have an Android phone and that`s what you use on a daily.
Is that true?
The stock USB hub that came in your truck will work just fine with Android Auto but no, your 2016 F150 did not come stock with the upgraded USB hub. Those hubs did not become standard until the 2017 F150`s came out.

That`s what i`ve heard and i`m looking forward to doing the 3.0 update when Ford finally makes the release official.
I can’t figure out how to get the update to work. When I download the file I opened it and I’ve tried unzipping the files and placing them all in the USB drive as well as not unzipping them and placing them in the drive and every time I place the drive in the car it says error.

After said update, the Ford website will update the changes via WiFi so one does not have to plug the USB stick back into the computer after it`s removed from the truck even though the instructions on the website says otherwise.

Are you trying via a Mac or Windows and have you also tried the update via WiFi.
Currently running v2.0. Works fine. I checked this thread out to make sure there are no issues in v2.3 before loading.
A question on USB installation instructions from Ford website. It states to start the truck, first. Then it goes on with the rest of the installation. Never references when to turn truck off. So, I leave the truck engine running the entire time the installation is in process?

Correct.
Leave your truck running until the update is complete but remember, your vehicle is designed to turn off after it has been sitting with the engine running so just start the update and if it hasn`t finished in 15 minutes, just drive your truck around the block or within your neighborhood. No worries, the update will continue and if there are any problems with the update, the SYNC screen will let you know via some kind of error message.
One more thing, don`t worry about reporting the successful update back to the Ford Owner website via USB. If your update was successful and if you have automatic updates plus WiFi turned on, the system will report back to Ford for you.
