I'm working with a Ford script 9' flatbed, and I'm trying to identify the year applications. The forward cross arm has "BDAF 8010610 A" and the rear cross arm has "BDAF 8010608" stamped in the metal. The rear cross arm also has ford stamped in script. I know that the script was replaced in 1957 with block letters, so this bed has to have been produced before then. Any help?

Hey Bill,
I appreciate you looking up the number, but I was afraid that I would get that kind of information. I'm working on a 1951 F-5 M-H truck, and I'm trying to put it back together correctly! Know anyone that could use a 1953/1956 flat/stake bed?
Thx, Jerry
I have the 1944-1952 body book and don't find the breakdown of bed component parts. It does show the single script "Ford" at the rear. At some earlier date Ford changed the script from "Ford Truck" to simply "Ford". Hopefully somebody knows the date of that change. Stu

Complete body parts contain 7 numbers, but when you look these puppies up in body parts catalogs, you have to look up their basic part numbers, which in this case are 10608 and 10610.
You may already know this, but...just to be sure, I thought I'd pass the info along.
1948/56 catalog pic shows the 1953/56 Stake Bed with 'old timey' Ford script. 1957 and later pics show FORD block letters.
I have owned two nine foot script stake beds. My first was, AFAIK, original to the 1956 F350 it was on. It had the lock on the right center rear stake pocket
The bed I now have is alleged to have come from a 1956 F350. It had been in a family for years and the owner seemed to know what he was talking about. I never saw the truck. I now have the bed on a non stock 1949 F4, perfect fit. I have seen some earlier script stake beds and the only difference I can remember is the earlier models lacked the stake lock for the right center stake pocket. The stake lock feature has been discussed on this forum, earlier threads.
I would think the stake bed you have would be considered correct for an earlier, 1948 thru 1952 truck.
The number on the rear member of my stake bed appears to be BDAF-8010608 A as near as I can tell. The stamping are not perfect.
The positions 9.10.11 are not clear.
I would think that nine foot script stake bed would find a ready market.
Hey Ray,
This bed does have the stake lock on the rear plate assembly, so I'm leaning towards a '53-'56 years application. I got a look at a '50 F-5 and the rear plate assembly did not have the stake lock, and the mounts to the frame were in different positions. This difference is what created my concerns.
Thx, Jerry
