Anyone heard of an F4 Express?

Me neither, until now. I happened to look in the Hildy's book under Ashton wreckers, it mentioned their model 1050-E for F4 Express trucks. And then it shows a drawn picture of one. Is it a sales gimmick? Honest error? Or did Ford really make one for the '48-52's?

I'm curious, since I was going to originally build one out of an F3 parts truck after I find an F4 frame. Based on the light blue/turquoise truck that Bob has posted on here before.

From the drawing it looks like a Chevy truck. I think some one got their trucks mixed up. I've never heard of a F-4 pickup.

I had a guy some time ago tell me he had a F-3 panel truck. I've never heard of one of those either but the guy swore it was original. I never got to see it in person.

Maybe both trucks were members of a phantom fleet.

The Ashton ad in my '52 Hildy's doesn't show this. Which year shows it? I've never found anything else that shows a 9" Express bed on a Bonus Built era truck. It would have been easy for Ford to do since the F-2/3 wheelbase is 122" with the 8' Express bed, and with the F-4 having a 134" wheelbase it would have been perfect for a 9' Express bed. After all, Chevy had a 9' bed on their tonners during that era, and Ford came out with the 9' bed in '53 on tonners. Stu

Hildy's 1949 page 194. It's a small picture, but in it, it shows two stake pockets forward of the fender. One over the rear half, and then the rearmost one.

Not to highjack your thread but was the F1/F100's the only panels or did they come in a 3/4ton version too?

AFAIK, only half tons. F3 size, you'd be getting into parcel delivery models. Plus any "oddballs" lol. (Siebert may have stretched some)

Pre-WWII and up to 1947, Ford offered a 122" WB panel truck as well as a 134" one

IH made extended cab panel trucks back in the later 30's for the Air Mail Delivery service, which I've been searching for one. But, beggars can't be choosey, and if any older Ford long WB panel came available...

Only half tons, unless you count the coach built and woodie enclosed versions. We have seen several that were converted to ambulances for European military use by Marmon-Herrington. And the very special Campbell woodies. Stu

I was just wondering because I seen not to long ago a picture of a chevy panel of the early 50's that was super long compared to the Fords. I don't have a picture of it and can't remember the site I was on where I seen it unless it was on one of the threads about car shows attended.

One of these? Same as the 3800 9 foot pickup only in a panel configuration. Stu

F3 panel truck: F-3 Parcel Delivery (model J). Was the forerunner of the P Series Parcel Delivery introduced in 1953, assembled thru 1977.

Ya, that's the model I was refering to. The one I seen was flat black and had flames over the dog house. That sucker is long.
