Cruise Control Question

Hello,
First post and first question. I have a 94 Ford Ranger. The cruise control has not worked on this truck for a very long time. I have owned it for two months. I changed out the cruise servo in the engine compartment, and check the fuses. Nothing happens when you turn the cruise on.

I took it to my local Ford Dealer as I could not find anyone that could help. The mechanic id'd the part that was bad as the "steering wheel sliding contact" and stated that he could not do anything as it was obsolete.

My question is this: Can any one direct me to where I can find this unit as I cannot find it on the internet or I just have no clue as to what I am looking for.
Second, if anyone knows of this issue and where to find one are they easy to change out.
Appreciate any help.

94 Ranger Cruise Control

I found my own answer after talking with the parts person at Ford. The name of the item the mechanic listed is correct but the common name is multi switch. I ordered one and am hoping this will fix the cruise control issue. I am not 100% sure it will work, but after looking at the wiring diagram I am assuming the buttons on the steering wheel tie into the switch and onto wherever that goes. I will find out next week when I get the part.

On a Ford, the MF switch typically controls the turn/4-way/wiper/wash/high or beam/flash-high beam functions. The steering wheel mounted switches for the cruise need a flexible connection between the rotating steering wheel and the fixed steering column, this is frequently accomplished via a clock spring. They use a clock spring because is a long lasting, ultra reliable connection (same reason as why it's used on an airbag). If I were suspicious of problems with the cruise switches and/or the interface between the steering wheel/column wiring/connections, I'd go in there with my DMM and test to verify normal operation, or a failure.

^+1 on CBB9M's ideas.

EDIT: WOOOPS, dis-regard previous switch thoughts, my oldy moldy mind was thinking of the OD switch contacts on the end of the shifter.

Post up any trouble code clues you may have, as they can help focus a trouble shoot.

Ditto to what CBB9M said but the older Rangers used slip rings -instead of a clock spring- to get voltage and ground to the horn switch and CC buttons. Is your horn working? Your wiring diagram should show how the horn & CC switches are wired

The multi switch wont fix this
