Clearing downed trees from a storm. Can’t get my truck out of 4wd I remember a thread on this but I can’t find it. I have limited internet and no power.
Back and forth from reverse to drive on level ground and then into neutral usually works for me. You didn't mention hi or low 4wd so I assume hi, neutral is not needed from hi but it works for me when mine gets stuck.
What Mark said is straight from the owners manual. I had the same issue the first time I tested to see if my 4WD even worked. Tried every which way to get out of 4 low to no avail. Then I read the directions and it worked first time!

What's funny is that this is how I found this site. I had to google my 4WD won't shift into low and it brought me here.

My story (now that we're sharing) is that I had a 1990 F-150 that I bought after a second major accident on my policy (thank you, ex-wife) in less than a year. The first problem I had was that it wouldn't run right on the rear tank. Did a google search, and many years later here I am still. The fact that Ford trucks are the best made trucks on the road today might have something to do with it, because that was my first of many Fords!
