Hey guys. Name is kenneth I'm new to the site an its great lots of good info on here. I gotta problem..I have 04 f250 an its stuck in 4wd low. I put it in neutral hit the breaks turned the switch..tried driving forward as the book says even tried reverse an nothing still stuck in low. So I tried turning off the engine bute leaving the key turned forward an switching it into 4wd high I could hear the motor come on for a quick second as if it were trying to change into 4wd high but it won't..after trying it a few times it just quit. Motor won't come back on..tried unpluggin the motor on the t-case an makin sure it was clean then while it was unplugged I tested it an made it was getting power to it and it IS getting power but it won't come back on? Can some one please tell me what's goin on? Do I replace the motor or send the truck off to the shop or.....???
You can try knocking on the transfer case shift motor with a hammer and see if that will get it shifted back into 4HI or 2WD. But you need a new motor, so I would just go get one and not waste any more time. You said the wires have power in the appropriate terminals at the appropriate time so the wiring is good, the motor is just junk .... fairly common.
this may sound weird butttt....on my 99f150 i had it did the same thing after i went mudding. what fixed it was i put it in neutral, and revved it for about 5 seconds then did the switch and it was fixed! dont know how or why this fixed it but it did.
