T- Case will not go into low range

T- Case will not go into low range
today when i was pulling people out of the ditch because of the snow we got i went into 4wd and it worked fine i was stopped so i switched it into 4 low and nothing. light did not come on in dash and it wasnt engaged. does anyone know why 4 high will work and not 4 low. i have esof

thanks joe. i diddnt know it had to be in neutral i tried everything except that. park, rolling about 2 mph, stopped in drive, and nothing. so it wont work in park and has to be in neutral?
