Transfer Case Leak - Shared Fluid?
'99 Expy XLT 4WD. Transfer case has had a very slow leak over past few months. Not pooling but leaves a couple of drops on cardboard overnight and outside of case is wet toward the rear. Decided to address the issue and add more fluid to the transfer case but when trying to add more it just runs out as if the fluid level is full. (Vehicle is on flat surface not elevated - I'm still skinny enough to slide underneath.) My question for the gearhead types: Is the transmission fluid shared between the tranny and transfer case or is the transfer case completely separate? The tranny dipstick says the level up front is OK. (I looked around on the transmission forum to no avail.) Informed opinions or educated guesses much appreciated.
