I recently alked into my garage and smelled an odd odor. I immediately thought that the tranny was leaking again, but I checked the fluid level and it seemed to be very high. The fluid that had leaked smelled used and all the transmision fluid was very new. I then thought of the transfer case, but the fluid was an orangy red color and came from between the transmission and transfer case. I have a recently built 429 backed by a C-6 tranny with a married NP205. The transmission and transfer sat for almost a year while I was doing the engine w/o any use at all. I just recently installed the engine and have not put more than 10 miles on it. My transmission pan was leaking but I had seemed to fix that. The transfer case has not been out of 2Hi for a year now. But I dont think that could cause anything since the fluid color was not black. Any help would be appreciated.
My 1980 4x4 takes dexronII auto trans fluid in the transfer
case too. Mine was leaking where the driveshaft comes out and
when I went to replace the seal, I found the large nut that holds
the output yoke on was loose.

Funny how when we're young we worry about odd fluid dripping from our "johnson" but as the years progress we pretty much only worry about odd fluid dripping from our rigs...
