Well, it seems I have the infamous psom ailment that so many of us have heard about. It isn't too bad, but my truck has a buck at low speeds, the bouncing needle and fidgety cruise control. I have a junkyard cluster leftover from a tachometer swap, but I have been concerned about the correct mileage. I'd like to try correcting the mileage in my spare speedometer and trade it out...I've heard that the a tone generator can run the miles up if connected properly - I assume this takes a headphone jack and a 12v power source to activate the cluster....but I can't find the instructions for doing this. I've seen the instructiions for changing the calibration constant, that's not quite it.
I'd *love* to pay Ford to do this, but I'm more creative than wealthy or patient. Who can tell me how to do this?
Go to Steve83's post, and you'll find a couple of links that should get you there from here. Since you probably didn't cut the PSOM harness out of your donor truck, a set of jumper leads with alligator clips should work to get you connected to those tiny pins.
Let me know how this turns out; I'm curious as I have a 75k mile discrepancy on my PSOM as well.
Hi,
I went to a place localy to me but I found them on the web. They had a rebuilt PSOM speedometer in stock programmed w/ mileage less than what most junkyards in the area wanted for theirs. I found them at http://www.dashusa.com (888) 909 9473 they have a whole section on ford psom problems
