first, where exactly on the rear axle is the vss??? and second, I've called about twenty junk yards looking for the speedo for my truck so i can take the psom off of it. The closest thing I can find is a 94 f150 with a 5.o e4od trans and the guage cluster does not have a tach. My truck is a 95 f150 with a 351 and e4od trans and my cluster does have a tach. Can I use the one from the truck I found or does the engine size need to be the same, and does it matter if it has a tach on the cluster or not?
There is no internal difference in the PSOM. The PSOM is the unit attached to the back of the speedo itself. Each gauge cluster consists of 3 removable panels that you need to remove.
You can use pull the PSOM and speedo out and swap it into your cluster. Swapping entire clusters is complicated because of differences in model years, but the speedo itself is good to go.
The VSS is on top of the rear diff, if I recall correctly.
thanks man... i really appreciate it. I'm going to change the vss, psom and the tps this weekend along with changing the filter and fluid in the trans. had a problem with it shifting into neutral on the way to work on the freeway, but driving home on surface streets for forty minutes it was fine, didn't shift hard or anything. so everyone told me it was one of those three sensors most likely. all of the sensors have 226000 miles on them so its about time i guess. thanks again
I do know on the econoline units the 94 and 95 have differences in the trans shift modules-I haven't had a problem with changing the instument panels -yet i've had to change out 3 -something in them were shorting out and telling the pcm that the vehicle was not moving hence the trans sifted very strange?

thanks alot, that post was pretty good. I have to wait til tomorrow to look at it and hopefully its something easy. when I ran the codes I didn't get any real trans codes or torque converter codes so i'm hoping its not something mechanically wrong with the trans. I'll try anything to save the cost of having it rebuilt (between 1200 and 1500 bucks from what i've gathered so far)
