I had no fuel pressure to the fuel rail on my truck(302). I replaced the high pressure pump because it was dead(had voltage to it,but wouldnt run) and filter. It started right away (about 35 psi) and all was happy in Ford land :<). However, it idled for about five minites and then died.No fuel pressure :<( .There is no fuel from the HP pump output. I can hear the low pressure pumps run(dual tanks),so I disconnected the inlet at the HP pump to check for fuel there. It is dry.Shouldn't the in tank pumps push fuel to the HP pump inlet? Does the fuel tank selector go bad? Is it servicable? This truck has 94,000 miles on it but it has sat unused and started seldom over the last three years. Thanks Cal
So you tried both tanks? If so maybe the fuel selector valve is bad, check everthing else first. Mine went bad on my 87 f150 4.9 efi. dont run the HP pump for long it will burn out.
You don't even need the in-tank pump, as long as you don't run the tank dry. As long as there's no air in the fuel line, the HP pump will suck the fuel out of the tank.
Unfortunately this is not true It will run BUT you will start having a real serious fuel starvation problem (happened to me more than once). The older system must have the low pressure lift pump to feed the high pressuure pump or you will have the same problem the old mechanicals had with starting dry, it will work but it's hard as hell on the pump and will burn it out.
Theres a fuel shut off switch under the dash drivers side dash above the clutch pedal. 2" Black box with a white button on top, see if its pressed down. You can bypass it if you thinks its bad, replace it ifs its bad.
I believe its the selector valve. I unscrewed the bottom off it and found two O rings laying on the bottom. I will get a new one tomorrow and try it. Thanks, Cal
Call around at ford dealers you may find one for about 64.00 net price. I dont think you can find an aftermartet "direct find one". You need one without a wire connecting. which is called a mechanical six port fuel selector valve.
