hey guys. So I had a wheel cylinder go bad and when I opened up the drum, i realized the pads were very worn as well. So I am just re doing my drum brakes. This is my first time working on drum brakes. I got the passenger side all taken apart and put back together, although its not really centered. I beleive I saw on an eric the car guy video that he used the parking brake to center it all out a few times while adjusting the shoes.
The thing that is confusing me the most is the parking brake lever inside the drum seems to be too close to the hub. i tried to take decent pictures. I cant seem to find anyway to adjust the levers. to push the parking brake pedal in the cab would pull these levers against the hubs. ... my parking brake didnt work for **** before.
is there anything yall can see thats wrong in these photos? any advice? I HAVE to finish this project very soon.
If the front and middle parking brake cable sections have plenty of slack with the parking brake off, you most likely have a bind in the rear parking brake cables (one for each side), that is causing the tension. They go bad over time and get sticky. I would replace them with new cables.
i am wondering if there is something else going on with this one. driver side. the hub seems gouged out, and maybe thats true, from the seized cable. but theres a deeper stranger looking gouge at the very back of the hub. could it be anything having to do with bearings? the other side doesnt look like this. it also seems to be sorta touching those bolts that hold the back pan (is that what its called) on. i hope one day to have this thing all beautiful and special like a lot of yalls but losing my job right after winter, right after buying a house realllllly put me in debt. yikes. even had a few thoughts of selling while i was working on it today and noticing all the things i need to replace. i would see selling this thing as a step backwards and failure. she aint pretty, but one day she will be.
pretty much no clearance. hub spins fine without any grinding noises or anything, so maybe theres just a tiny bit... maybe should take apart and inspect.
