2011 Ford F150 3.5 Ecoboost. Should I stay away?

I've come across an opportunity to pick up a low mileage (7,000) 2011 F150 4x4. Truck is immaculate and seems babied. Obviously I'm doing my reading on the forums and seeing all the negative issues folks have had with the "upgrade" ecoboost motor. I drove my neighbors 2012 with the ecoboost and felt the shutter/ hesitation at high rpms when stomping the pedal. Should I run scared or jump at the opportunity if I can grab this truck in the low $20k range?

Welcome!

Only 7000 miles on a 2011? That's an amazing find. How can you go wrong?

But, to better satisfy your curiosity and to complete your research, ask to be the first one to start the truck cold in the morning. With only 7K on the clock I can't imagine that ANYTHING could possibly be wrong.

In truth, this truck is no more of a gamble than a 2011/12 F150 with the 5.0L V-8.

Pick it up if you don’t mind having to worry about engine misfires (which you already know), having to change spark plugs very often, worrying about when the cold start rattle will happen, and getting fuel in the oil. There are other options out there that provide a much better ownership experience.

I agree with Tim.
As for the one negative remark, please ignore it as this is another armchair quarterback that has no experience but lots of opinion.

I don’t understand what the problem is.
I speak from experience... I had a 2013 Ecoboost that was extremely problematic. It had all the issues that the 11-14 Ecoboost owners talk about. So, I traded it in and now have something different that is problem free.

Mcnawsty, This is the one and only time i will honor you with a reply of any type. So pay attention.
I owned a 2012 F150 Screw XLT 4X4 and now have a 2015 Screw (my signature picture) both with 3.5 Eco engines and I have a 2016 Escape with a 2.0 Eco. I HAVE HAD 0 PROBLEMS with any of them. I have never said that no one else ever had problems but I do know not EVERYONE has had problems as you suggest. Heck I know a guy that had to have his 5.0 replaced at 13,000 miles. However I don't blame all 5.0 motors. Gee I am sorry you had one that had problems get the hell over yourself. Not ECOs all are bad, you sir are not an expert. As far as I am concerned my 3 vehicles trump your one. Be very glad that I am not a moderator as you sir would be gone.

I have a 2011 with 85000 miles, been a good truck, just change oil and rotate tires
problems so far
Midshift bearing went out this summer, driveshaft is non-serviceable, cost 600. for new driveshaft with me doing install, at least new driveshaft is serviceable and u joints have Zerks

Truck is in shop today for a weird transmission issue- 3 times last week it downshifted on its own while gowing 50, all the way to second gear-scary, of course no codes thrown, had them remap software in trans-??

Wiring in driver side door- broken wires from opening and closing door, first time repaired under warranty, second time I soldered wires and it's been good

Not trying to scare anyone, just sharing my experience

I'd buy it if in mid twenty's, have you saw price of new

The transmission downshift is a well documented item as Ford owned up to it. You will need to get those replacement parts on yours.

Ford made it clear their not owning up to my problems, said my truck is not one on list. I don't know why as my build date falls within parameters they laid out.

And I'm assuming that truck would be a 6.2L Raptor.
