No, there is no coding to signify the 5 Star Extra option. This allows us, if we choose, to give our trucks a nice upgrade to cap off our restorations. Finding all the rare parts of the Extra package can be a challenge, though. Stu
I just thought of something else. I'm new to the '48-'52 era and while researching '52's I've noticed that the spare tire is always under-bed. Was a side mount with dished fender not an option?
No, there was no side mount option. Some owners made their own, some simply by bashing in a fender and some by cutting and fabricating. The pickup bed trucks, and the big trucks, carry the spare under the frame on the hanger. The stake bed models F-1/2/3 carry the spare above the frame rails between the wood bed rails. Shown in the below diagram.
Stu, thanks for the info. I've got my eye on this beauty...appears to be all original except for windshield gasket replacement. Problem is he's asking $20,000!!

Nice truck, and well optioned. Notice in my first post that its radio and Magic Air heater were options sold separate from the 5 Star Extra package. I guess it's rust free by Iowa standards, but it's not rust free judging by the seam at the upper and lower fender. Maybe I've been watching too many Mecum and BJ auctions, but I think the asking price should be half or less. But I'm living the real costs of trying to restore one, so maybe it's not crazy expensive if everything works and is well sorted out. Stu
abe, looks like a steal. This F1 is advertised as "A very clean, working..." Stock Condition but I'm with you guys, $10-12k is about as high as I'd go. Stu, yeah, by Iowa standards this is in incredible condition, but this baby is far from my Des Moines home! That is the only rust perf I can spy from the photos.

Pull up the rubber floor mat on the driver and passenger side and look where the floor meets the A-pillar. I agree with Stu, it doesn't look rust free to me and $10K would seem more reasonable.

I think $10 thou is too much.
Another thought.... How old are the tires? Dry rotted, cracked? Four new ones would cost $500+.
Here's a couple more pics from the ad. It's a full on extra cab with door panels and headliners. 3 tires appear to match, the DS rear is odd one. I doubt they're serviceable. I can't see any dents, damage etc. but obviously not worth what he's asking. Just to satisfy my curiosity, it's in Great Falls, MT if someone on the forum can give her the once-over for me. It's on CL.
