I guess my question is, can the 83 factory window frame be dissembled to facilitate replacing the glass? I have found replacement glass for the newer sliders even how to disassemble the frame videos but nothing for the earlier windows. I don't want to pull the window if it's not repairable. I can cut the glass and my son can get it tempered, I don't think I want the panel behind my head to be untempered.

yes, it just screws together, but you need to remove the entire window from the truck for disassembly
I used an OEM Ford back slider from a 1994 - 1996 truck. It fit just like the original one, except the latch is a MUCH better design; it can also be used as a handle and it won't break like the earlier ones would:
