Window Issues

Hello to all. 1979 F150 4x4 passenger side window is hard to roll down or up. I've taken the door panel off, lubed any pivot points that I can see, but man is it hard to crank down. If I fuss with it, sometimes it hits a "sweet" spot and rolls a few inches before binding again. Are the registers bad? Thanks Shawnyboy!

I had this same issue, and replacing the regulator solved the problem. You can buy the roll gear separately, but if the teeth on the window arm are worn as well, it's probably best to just buy the entire regulator assembly. Mine were $60 a piece, one for each door.

Your problem may or may not also be caused by the window felt being too tight, but in my experience that stuff dries and gets smaller with age, so it's more likely the regulator is causing the trouble.

I had a similar problem on 67 Fairlane. I sprayed brake cleaner thoroughly into the regulator, cleaning out the crud. Then sprayed white grease intot the regulator. Worked the regulator up and down gradually. Did not try to force the regulator, just let the white grease work its way down into the mechanism. it took quite a bit, but eventually was able to roll up and down no problem. That was 2 years ago, and haven't had the problem since. As a preventative measure, I sprayed withe grease into the other side and have not had a problemn with it.
