4r100 interchangeable years for 4x2

Need to replace my tranny in a 2001 F350 Super Duty. Which years can I just unbolt and install?

Late 1999 through 2003 for a diesel, add 2004 for a gas. You MUST get a gas engine trans for a gas engine truck, and a diesel trans for a diesel truck. You also need to get a 4x2 trans, a 4x4 won't work.

Thanks Mark. I thought there was a smaller margin. Does truck model make a difference if I change the pan? 150/250 ? And do I need the computer from the donor vehicle?

I need to replace the 1999, gas, 4r100 in my e450, are you saying any gas 4r100 between 99-04 will work? If so, does that include 4r100 trans from explorers?

And yes, I'd get a 2wd to match my 2wd, of course.

Truck model doesn't matter. The engine is what matters. You do not need the computer from the donor vehicle. You shouldn't use a trans from a 5.4L behind a 6.8L, it's not strong enough. A 6.8L trans will work behind a5.4L, but some of the shifts will be firm.

If it is not an early '99 that will work. The way to tell the difference is the late '99 and newer have two sensors on top of the trans. If your old trans has these sensors the replacement trans MUST have them or it isn't going to work. If you don't have the sensors any year will work, but if the replacement has the sensors there is an internal change the needs to be done with the pump.

There was never a 4R100 in the Explorers.

Yes, the 4R100 in the Expeditions are the same as the 5.4L 4R100 in any other truck.
