97 7.3 fuel problem!!!!

Hi, I have a 97 f250 7.3 and I was driving it the other day and my fuel filter light came on about a mile or two later it started running rough and then died I got out and check the filter and it looked good it's a brand new filter anyway.. I pressed the bleeder valve on the side of the filter housing and it just spit air out of it .. So I cranked it and pressed it again still air repeated this a couple times and finally it started and I got it back home .. now it has no problem starting right up idles great .. So I go to take it for a test drive and same thing fuel filter light comes on and eventually dies and have to bleed out the air till it starts back up now I noticed the faster I go the sooner it will happen .. I'm thinking I have a cracked fuel line but I can't find any leaks ... if anyone could give me some advice on where to start or what direction to go thAt would be great this is my first diesel .... thanks you

if less than a 1/4 tank, you could have a broken shower head

the fuel bowl has a little screen inside that could be clogged up too, its to put the air back to the tank. mine was so plugged up I had to remove it to clean it. most can use a q tip to gently remove the material. pull filter and its near the drivers side in the bowl

if it does it on both tanks, you might have a loose line, fitting, hose from tank selector valve to pump inlet

Also could possibly be a weak fuel pump not maintaining pressure?

Did you find the problem? I believe that filter light indicates excessive vacuum in the fuel system, possibly due to such things as clogged filter, fuel line, tank selector valve and fuel pickup strainers in the tank.
