As soon as I plugged it in I could rev it up in the driveway and get the needle to move to 5 psi!!
So another road test.......and instant boost = instant power! Night and day difference!!
So Im going to buy a new EBP sensor and boost sensor just incase it decides to "stick" again.
Here is my latest problem though.....as soon as I hit 5 psi or higher......it smokes bad out the tail pipe!! I am assuming the boost pressure is blowing what oil accumulated (from blown turbo) in the intercooler back through into the intake. I was revving it up a few times....seems to lighten up a bit...
Should I pull the cooler and drain/wash......or go burn it out on the highway??
Thanks for the help!!
You could have a gallon or more in your IC.... you should pull it and drain it.

Well, I lost it.....my boost and my patience!!

I bought a new EBP sensor and new MAP sensor from Ford. $350.
Installed them and my key on engine off readings are
EBP - 14.9 psi
Intake - 14.1 psi
Baro - 14.1 psi
VGT 85%
Boost 0 psi

Good Right??

I start the truck up and exact same problem as original. Boost gauge does not move until i get to 40mph. It maxes at maybe 10 psi @ 50-60mph. I cant get the boost to move just off idle like I did before.
I just dont get it. Im working on this thing out in the driveway....windy.....and burning my eyes with the strong unburnt diesel. I had to leave my clothes in the garage they stink so much!!!

What am I missing?? I cant see it being anything like blown intercooler boots....a;though I checked......since it was working fine the other night when I had momentarily boost. (road tested for 30 min)

I verified the new MAP sensor and wiring by blowing compressed air into the MAP sensor and my torque pro quickly climbs to 20-25 psi until i let off.

I also have a hard time getting past 3000 rpm in the driveway.
Ill try some fresh fuel and new filters tomorrow maybe?

HELP!!

Do you have ForScan on a laptop? If you do load up the VGT % PID in the Control section of the data table and change the % and see if the turbo pitch changes. That will determine if there is an issue with VGT solenoid and/or wiring.

I dont have ForScan.....but here is what I did.
I unplugged the VGT solenoid and no change in engine pitch or turbo whistle.
I swapped the VGT solenoid with the spare one I had from the other turbo. Again, no change.
I checked voltage at the VGT connector. I get 12 volts.
I checked ground at the VGT connector. I have a good ground.
I am unsure how this solenoid works.....but shouldnt I see a difference in voltage as I rev the engine up? Wouldnt a variable voltage.....or variable ground, allow the solenoid to move?

Does someone have a good explanation of how this system works?
I am sure the turbo vanes are to blame, but I cant see them being hung up again. I just had this thing working a few nights ago.
Thanks for the help!

It works similarly to the IPR. its a PWM signal. so just measuring for voltage is not useful. You need a computer connection. If you have an adapter you can hook to your computer Forscan is free.

The other thing to check is when you assembled the turbo were you sure to get the rack and pinion part of the vgt on the first tooth? If not it might have stuck if it went over center.

I seem to recall a DTR (maybe) video that talked about the timing of that and how to check to see if it is correct.

Do you know if Nexiq USB Link (first gen) will work with Forscan?
I never took the rack part apart in fear of not getting it back together properly!

it might... I have not heard of that. hook it up and download forscan and try it... nothing to loose if you already have it.

I had a ford tech come out with his tablet with ford software installed.
He was unable to activate the VGT. We were able to determine the solenoid had shorted. Right in the ford troubleshooting quide it says that the 1 wire from the pcm to the vgt should power a test light. We could not get a test light to light although I had a previous 12 V reading on my multimeter.
So I suspect a bad pcm....although no other known issues with the truck.
GRound side of VGT to pcm tests OK
