4 X $ low problem

4 X $ low problem
I have a 2010 F250 4 X 4 with the V10 engine. My problem is the 4 X 4 high works properly but when I select 4 X 4 low the light flashes and it will not engage. I followed all the procedures in the owners manual but no luck. Any one had this problem or have an idea of the cause?

No I did not have in neutral and my foot on the brake. I did that and the 4 X 4 low works but now it will no disengage. It is struck in 4 X 4 low. When I select 2 wheel the 4 X 4 low light flashes and still in 4 X 4 low same when I select 4 X 4 high. I tried to drive and see if it would disengage, no help. Now what?

Try rocking the truck and tapping on the little electric motor on the transfer case. When not used often, they tend to freeze up.

No, I was not when I did neutral foot on the brake it disengaged and worked as advertised. Thanks for the help. I am new to 4 X 4, operator error.

My experience is that it can take awhile to disengage (a minute or so), and it sometimes will make alot if grinding noises when doing so. Never had any problems though. I only use it when plowing deeper wet snow. Just giving you a heads up.

Apparently more than we thought because the later models actually provide a message telling you what to do. At least mine does.
