Engaging 4 low
I just tried to use 4 low in my '04 SD and it never went in. Is there a trick to it? On every other shift on the fly 4x4 I've just put the shifter in neutral, moved the selector and it went in right away, or after moving a few feet either way. But this time, it never did. I read the manual and that's how it said it should work, but it's still in 4 high. Any tips?

You have to have your foot on the brake enough to activate the brake switch. It's helpful if you're moving a bit when you turn the switch. If you have a manual transmission you also have to have your foot on the clutch.

I have noticed my 4 low is kinda finicky (i have esof) it once you follow the protocol it takes a second or 2, and sometimes you have to try it a couple times. My hardest part is getting it out of 4wd once its in...

Quick update: evidently I didn't apply enough pressure on the brake pedal. I tried it today and once I pushed justa bit harder than I had been, it clunked into low and the light came on. Thanks again!
