Added weight to improve fuel mileage and aerodynamics would be my guess. My tuck is to dirty to go look underneath.

I only have the rear one as well. I was thinking the front comes with diesels but livkot has a diesel and stated he only has rear one. Maybe the front one comes on long beds? OP is your truck a long bed?

That could be true but they sure are small and leave a ton of area vulnerable. They could be bigger to protect more of the tanks.

I have a SC long bed dually. I don't have either one of those plates. Where the front plate is, I have a bracket that is welded on. So that plate would not fit. I think my welded on bracket holds the bed on.

Just got back from touring Oregon. 3400 miles, towing 11,000 lb 5th wheel, no issues. Very satisfied, well, maybe wish it got my 2013's fuel mileage. The extra power over my '13 gave me 5 more mph speed up Lee Canyon here in Vegas. Would rather have the extra 2 mpg. But that's just me. Others I'm sure would rather have the extra power.

Ford says I got 11.1 mpg, calculator says 10.6 mpg. That included maybe 400 miles not towing.
