Hi, this thread is alittle old but I had to jump in. I sell RV's and the reason you don't see the powerstroke in more motorhomes is the weight issue. We sell Coachmen RV's and there is a couple of class C models that offer the Powerstroke option. The PS is heavier and takes away from the GCVW. The class A models are now either the V-10 which has been an awesome motor and the new GM 8.1L with the Workhorse chassis. The 8.1L is the most powerful gasoline engine offered in an RV. Mileage with V-10 range from 8-10(depending on weather, terrain, tow vehicle) and the 8.1L 9-12mpg(same factors) This isn't something I've read just what I am hearing from my customers.

i also work for an rv dealership and i deal with rentals. ide have to say that between two comparable motorshomes one on a ford f-53 and one on a workhorse the ford seems to want to move alittle better. the fords are also much more reliable. all of our major problems have been on the chevy/workhorse chassis. not to mention chevy just dosent have a heavy duty enough chassis to be under any sizable motorhome. all the bigger motorhomes that ive seen have been on a ford chassis.

Yeah, I would agree on the weight issue. Technically, gasoline engined trucks can haul more than a diesel.
Diesels are nice, but they are harder to maintain, and have to be operated a certain way.
The simplicity of the gasoline engine is a bonus, and it is much lighter and offers plenty of power. The only disadvantage of the gasser is the fuel economy.
The V10 is a good engine from what I hear, personally, I prefer the older 460's. Very simple to maintain, very reliable, lots of power. My 460 gets between 7.5 and 8, and its a utility truck weighing in around 7K.
