What's UP?

I don't know if it is just me or what but every car show I go to there is a really nice old Ford truck or car that looks fully restored and is gorgous until I look under the hood where some idiot has stuck a chebbie 350 in it. what is up with that ? why not fully restore the darn thing and make it original under the hood as well as on the out side? Why make a chebbie powered Ford? I guess the people that do this have no common sense. Any body feel the same as me?

It's the same as puttin the Ford engine in a chebby.. Why? The vehicle was specifically designed to use a specific engine so why change it? We had 1959 Chevy truck/street rod with a Ford 429/c6 combo that would walk all over everything else on the road.....

When I was still owning my restaurant not too long back, I got plenty of local car club types......

The basic response to your question was, "Because there is a kit to put the 350 in my rod."

I agree that an older Ford ought to have a Ford engine in it, but it wasn't me who financed the rod...so who am I to argue?

That hype is going away. There are kits available to mate any transmission up to a Ford 4.6L DOHC V8. Its cheaper than the 350 now, because the 350 is no longer being manufactured on a large scale.
I have always preferred the stock setups. I like to see someone actually maintain a car rather than piece one together. Oh well, I am pretty much alone there, most people like to mod their own vehicles.

It is either a matter of preference or (more than likely) because it is cheaper. The amount of power you can get out of a 350 along with the low cost makes it perfect for the swap. You don't see many big block chevies in fords because they aren't as cheap to build. It will take a long long long long time before swapping SBCs into fords stops. SBC blocks and cranks are a dime a dozen. Before the 5.3 liter (or whenever it was that they stopped making the 350) if a chevy was a V8, then it was a 305 or a 350. (yeah, I know, some weren't)
