Was the original engine intake manifold painted the same as the engine color?
My engine is the original dark ford blue.
1966 ford 240 six.
No it's not...someone painted it Ford Blue. As original, the engine block, heads and intake manifold are black. Ford Blue wasn't used on F Series trucks till 1968.
The valve cover is either painted red or blue...I can't recall which.

If it helps any, my '66 240 has a blue valve cover. I can't say for certain that it wasn't repainted somewhere along the way, though. Check out my gallery, there's a picture of it there.

What about a '63 292? My valve covers are orange and my block/heads are the color of 40 year old grease/dirt....
I looked at a 55 that still had the original 272 in it. The guy painted the valve covers and exhaust gray (even the crossover) and the rest of the engine bright yellow. Ugh! That can't be right, can it?
To the best of my knowledge that's the right color combo for a 272, 292 and 312, yellow block/intake & grayish silver for valve & pipes for 50's & early 60's Y block's. The 352 V-8 of 1965- up was black engine block & gold valve covers; The 240 & 300 sixes 65-66 era where black block and ford blue valve covers.
Hope this helps.

Ford Red is the block/head color. Silver exhaust and intake. Black valve covers? Not sure about the valve covers. My 292 (1964) is original colors to the best of my knowledge. I do know that none of it has been painted since 1968 when my grandpa bought the truck. Im re-painting my 292 Ford Red except the valve covers and exhaust. The black and Ford Red color combo with a little chrome is a pretty sharp look. Ill post pics when I have it all back together.
I have a 1962 F250 4x4 292v8. I haven't a current need to pull my motor, but when I replaced my water pump I painted it the old ford blue, with gloss black pulley and spacer. I am currently replacing my generator and will paint it gloss black, including the fan/pulley. I searched the world over and was unable to locate a chrome fan/pulley, which would look trick, imho. anyone that has factual colors for my "under hood colors", versus personal opinion, i'd love to hear from them. I still haven't installed the wp. now would be a great time to locate the oem color chart.

My '66 with a 352 that I have a complete history of (Grandpa bought it new) came with the engine painted blue.
Well, ive removed my valve covers, which are orange, but i cant be certain its original paint, looks like it. Block was at one time black
numberdummy, who has been around more Ford blocks and parts said no blue, prior to 68......i know my engine is a 1962. Guess ill have to paint that waterpump black.....but it looks great old Ford blue., screwit, im leavin it blue.

Paint it your favorite color(s).
There are long, long threads on engine colors. A '62, however, pretty certainly had a black block, oil pan, heads, water pump, and intake manifold. Valve covers on a 292 Y Block in a truck would have likely been Ford Vermillion (more red than Chevy Vermillion), although there is considerable evidence many F-350 292 Y Blocks, at least from '61-'63, had Argent (silver) valve covers -- no, I can't explain why an F-350 might use a different color than an F-100 or F-250! After reading ALL the threads I could find, and wanting to re-create the original appearance, I went with black for my '61 F-350's 292, with Vermillion covers. But I have a spare set of valve covers powdercoated Argent and ready to install at a moment's notice!

Uh huh. Right. Here, read what ND said here because he was incorrect about 1968, but correct about it being 1966. Same guy can't be right in both places........

ND must have been having a bad day in 2007 and forgot. Notice here in 2009 he is making more sense.

Did you read the second NumberDummy quote in my post? '66 was definitely the year that they started painting pickup engines blue.
